    Hello Roth Families and Friends,

This is such an exciting time of year. We have our 7th Grade Concert tomorrow night. All week, we will be celebrating our wonderful teachers and staff. We have Math exams this week. The D.C. trip and our 9th Grade Semi-Formal are right around the corner. We have the exciting end-of-year Roth Awards Ceremony that our team has revamped and revitalized to celebrate our young scholars. It’s the busy season, as we wrap up one school year while planning for the next. It is important that we continue to work together – as a community – to support the civic, academic, and social-emotional development of our kids. And, in the spirit of working together, I’d like to re-share a message that I sent last week about the gratitude that I feel toward the educators in my journey – past, present, and future.

I will forever hold a special place in my heart for all of the professionals who work with and for our students. Specific to my own experience, I spent a lot of time on the receiving end of some decision-shaping and life-changing guidance from the teachers in my life. Sometimes those gems would resonate right away. Sometimes slowly. My family moved around a lot growing up, and each new school felt like a home-away-from-home. This was because of the teachers who guided me along my journey. Your kids – our students – have those same shapers and life-changers in their classrooms.

Here are some upcoming events and some reminders.

Roth Parent Group, Budget Presentation: Please join us at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, for a school district budget presentation. The online meeting will give Board Member (and Roth Liaison) Mrs. Rachel Sherman an opportunity to present the proposed 2025-2026 R-H budget to our families. Thank you for supporting our district and our students. Here is the link for Monday’s meeting.

Final Reminder – Attention 8th Grade Washington DC Parents and Guardians: We are only a few weeks away from our trip. Here are a few reminders. There will be a final informational meeting for students, parents, guardians, and chaperones at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, in the Roth Auditorium. Please do your best to be there. At that meeting, we will discuss last-minute topics, you can meet the chaperones, and we will discuss packing, weather, and answer any/all of your questions.

Also, please join the Washington DC Remind class by using this link: remind.com/join/c648f83

Or, you can send a text to 81010 with the message of @c648f83 to join. We will use the Remind messaging app to communicate with home while we are away. You can text chaperones through this messaging system in an emergency situation. Moving forward, this is how information will be shared with families between now and the trip.

Math State Test (and Practice Regents): With ELA well in our rearview, it’s time for our 7th and 8th graders to take on the New York State Mathematics exam. And, while our 7th and 8th graders will be showing their skills on the state test, our 9th graders will be sitting for a practice Regents exam (in Algebra or Geometry). We’re getting ready for the season of final exams and end-of-year celebrations. Good luck to all of our student scholars!

Roth Library News: So many thanks to Mrs. Leader and Ms. Thomas for the excellent work they have done all year engaging our students in the library. Please click here to check out our latest Roth Library Smore. Here is a sneak peek of what you’ll find:

Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month: May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the cultures, traditions, and histories of people from across Asia and the Pacific Islands who have and continue to shape the United States. From artists and authors to scientists and civil rights leaders, AAPI individuals have made important contributions to our communities and our country.

Get Caught Reading Month: May is Get Caught Reading Month. Reading sparks curiosity, builds critical thinking, fosters empathy, and opens doors to understanding the world. Get Caught Reading Month is the perfect chance to celebrate and encourage the joy of reading. By creating a fun, supportive reading environment at school and at home, we can help raise curious, compassionate, and thoughtful readers. So go ahead—grab a book, dive in, and get caught reading!

Roth Junior High Awards Night: It has been such a pleasure to get to know our kids this year, and I’m even more excited for an opportunity to honor their achievements with an audience of their greatest supporters. Roth families and friends are cordially invited to attend our Awards Night at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 3, in the auditorium. Please save the date on your calendar, and we look forward to celebrating our students.

A Sparkling Starry Night, Semi-Formal: Roth freshmen are invited to attend our Semi-Formal Friday, May 30. The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. This year’s theme is “A Sparkling Starry Night.” Tickets are $10 per person. Snacks and beverages will be provided. Tickets will be on sale Monday, May 19, through Friday, May 30, during lunch. Be sure to buy your ticket in advance as no tickets will be sold the night of the event. This event is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a night of dancing and fun with your friends before making the leap to the Senior High School. No tuxedos or ballroom gowns required. Put on your best business-casual attire. The goal is to have a blast without breaking the bank – save the formal wear for your Junior Prom and Senior Ball.

Budget Vote May 20: Please save the date for Rush-Henrietta’s annual budget vote and Board of Education election. Eligible voters are encouraged to vote between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at the R-H Transportation and Operations Center, 1133 Lehigh Station Road. Can’t make it that day? You have another option!

Qualified voters who would like an application for an absentee ballot or early voting ballot may request one from District Clerk Cheryl Castronovo at 359-5010 or ccastronovo@rhnet.org. If either type of ballot is to be mailed to the voter, the completed application must be received by the district clerk no later than Tuesday, May 13. If the early mail or absentee ballot is to be handed to the voter in person at the Office of the District Clerk, the completed application must be received by the district clerk during regular office hours no later than Monday, May 19. The Office of the District Clerk is located in the Parker Administration Building, 2034 Lehigh Station Road, Henrietta. To be counted, both types of ballots need to be received by the district clerk no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, via postal mail or the drop-box located at the administration building. If you need ASL interpreter service at the polling site for the May 20 vote, contact Ms. Castronovo by Wednesday, May 14, to request that an interpreter be present.
