Tuesday, April 08, 2025Dear 7th and 8th Grade Families,
During the NYS English Language Arts Assessment this morning, statewide connectivity issues prevented many students from accessing the tests. This disruption impacted a number of school districts across the state.
The New York State Education Department issued guidance to pause the test while they investigated. We paused for 30 minutes, and then determined it was in the students’ best interest to reschedule the exams. With the approval of the state, we are rescheduling the first part of the NYS English Language Arts Assessment for tomorrow, Wednesday, April 9. That means the second part of the assessment will now be given on Thursday, April 10 instead of tomorrow. NYSED has assured the testing system is now fixed and functioning at full capacity.
Some of our students were able to connect and begin taking the assessment. We have been told those students who began the exam will be able to pick up where they left off, and will not need to retake the already completed portion of the exam.
Because the students accessed the assessment on their Chromebooks, we are required to keep the devices at school until the first part of the exam is complete tomorrow. All students in grades seven and eight will leave their Chromebooks in their testing classroom tonight where they will be secured until tomorrow morning. We are working to ensure all devices are charged and ready to go.
We are very proud of our students for how well they are handling this disruption. We know it can be unsettling to stop and restart an exam, but we are confident our students will continue to do their best.
Thank you for your continued support.
