    Hello Roth Families and Friends,

We continue the steady march toward the Memorial Day holiday, the final days of school, and Regents exams at Roth Junior High. On Monday, Dedicated Voices, Jazz, and Chamber Ensembles crushed their spring concert performances. In these next few weeks, our 9th graders will have an opportunity to participate in what I hope will become a new Roth tradition – the Freshmen Lock-In – and the annual semi-formal dance. Over the next few days, nearly half of our 8th graders will enjoy sightseeing at our nation’s capital for the Washington, D.C. trip. And, our 7th graders are already showing signs of the slow transition from deer-in-junior-high-headlights to building familiars. Last month, we introduced Sherman’s 6th graders to Roth. In just about four months, we’ll welcome them as our newest 7th grade cohort and challenge them to join our rise to excellence. So, let’s go.

Please know that one of my primary goals in Year-1 has been to help the entire Roth community celebrate the great that is within each and every one of us/you. I believe each of our students is capable of achieving greatness. And, I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this wonderful Roth Junior High team that develops the willingness and passion within each of those very same students.

On Tuesday, June 3, we will celebrate many of our students at our Awards Ceremony. Families of award recipients will receive a Save the Date prior to the event. Our goal is to create a culture at Roth that encourages every single one of our students to put in the effort, persistence, and resilience necessary to have their time to shine on the big stage. Together, we will get there.

Here are some upcoming events and reminders.

Roth Junior High Awards Ceremony: It has been such a pleasure to get to know our kids this year, and I’m even more excited for an opportunity to honor their achievements with an audience of their greatest supporters. Invites will be sent to families of students who will be recognized. Those families are cordially invited to attend our Awards Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, in the auditorium. Please save the date on your calendar. We look forward to celebrating our students.

Roth National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony: Our celebration of Roth students will continue on Wednesday, June 4, with our National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony at 6:30 p.m. By now, future NJHS students and families should have received personalized invitations to the ceremony. It is an excellent recognition of Roth’s shining stars.

A Sparkling Starry Night, Semi-Formal: Roth freshmen are invited to attend our semi-formal Friday, May 30. The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. This year’s theme is “A Sparkling Starry Night.” Tickets are $10 per person. Snacks and beverages will be provided. Tickets will be on sale Monday, May 19, through Friday, May 30, during lunch. Roth 9th graders who plan to invite a 9th grader from a different school can pick up a Guest Form from the main office. No tuxedos or ball gowns required. Put on your best business-casual attire and be ready to dance the night away.

Roth Freshmen Lock-In (NEW): This event has been a long time coming. Our advisors and student officers have spent several hours over the past few months discussing, dreaming, and planning. Roth 9th graders: have you ever wanted to roam Roth’s halls after-hours to see what happens when the lights go out? This event will run from 8 - 11 p.m. on Friday, June 13. Freshmen will be able to celebrate the close of their Roth chapter by viewing the sunset from our beautiful campus fields. If the weather cooperates, we’ll use flashlights to participate in some fun outside games and enjoy snacks. Who knows? Maybe we can do s’mores! This event is limited to Roth Junior High freshmen. Tickets are $10 and will be on sale during lunches the week prior.

Student Honors: Congratulations to all of our students who have been recognized throughout the year for achieving any of our Honors. Please join me in celebrating and applauding Roth Junior High’s 3rd Quarter Honors recipients.
