Sunday, May 18, 2025Hello Roth Families and Friends,
Time is something that I am growing to appreciate more and more as I age. Time in terms of hours, days, weeks, and months. I am grateful for this first year as principal of Roth Junior High. The progress, the challenges, the lessons learned, and the motivation to continue our rise as a community. Time in terms of opportunities to connect with others. Getting to know our staff, students, and many families. Time well spent in our halls, classrooms, and the cafeteria. This past week: time with nearly 90 students in Washington, D.C. The reverence and respect that Roth’s 8th graders showed while visiting museums and memorials filled my heart with gratitude. Time is a constant, and I feel that schools have a particular awareness of its passage. From Week 1 in September, to Week 40 in June – and every week in between.
As we forecast these next few weeks, it is time to celebrate, recognize, and show what we know. It is time for our students to reflect back on four questions that I have asked throughout the year: How am I feeling today? What are my goals for tomorrow? Do I feel supported? Do I feel valued? There is still time to share and receive any support needed as a result of those self-care questions. It has been a joy to watch many of our 7th graders grow and mature throughout the year. It has been a pleasure to watch our 8th graders building habits and behaviors that will make their first official year as high schoolers smooth. It has been a gift to be a small part of our 9th graders’ last year at Roth Junior High.
Roth families and friends, I ask that you continue to encourage, lift up, and support our students as we march joyfully into these last few weeks of the school year. Reach out to teachers, counselors, or administrators if you have questions or concerns about the transition to the next grade (or building). We will continue to implement programs and practices that prepare students for the expectations, demands, and opportunities in the months and years ahead. One of the coolest aspects of my time with our 8th graders in D.C. was that they were able to view their chaperones as fellow citizens in a community of visitors. Even at home, I believe that we are all citizens in a collective community, with equal stake in Roth’s rise to excellence. Thank you for your continued support.
Here are some reminders and upcoming events.

Please save the date on your calendar. We look forward to celebrating our students.
Roth National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony: Our celebration of Roth students will continue on Wednesday, June 4, with our National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony at 6:30 p.m. By now, future NJHS students and families should have received personalized invitations to the ceremony. It is an excellent recognition of Roth’s shining stars.
A Sparkling Starry Night, Semi-Formal: Roth freshmen are invited to attend our semi-formal Friday, May 30. The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. This year’s theme is “A Sparkling Starry Night.” Tickets are $10 per person. Snacks and beverages will be provided. Tickets will be on sale Monday, May 19, through Friday, May 30, during lunch. Roth 9th graders who plan to invite a 9th grader from a different school can pick up a Guest Form from the main office. No tuxedos or ball gowns required. Put on your best business-casual attire and be ready to dance the night away.
Roth Freshmen Lock-In (NEW): This event has been a long time coming. Our advisors and student officers have spent several hours over the past few months discussing, dreaming, and planning. Roth 9th graders: have you ever wanted to roam Roth’s halls after-hours to see what happens when the lights go out? This event will run from 8 to 11 p.m. Friday, June 13. Freshmen will be able to celebrate the close of their Roth chapter by viewing the sunset from our beautiful campus fields. If the weather cooperates, we’ll use flashlights to participate in some fun outside games and enjoy snacks. Who knows? Maybe we can do s’mores! This event is limited to Roth Junior High freshmen. Tickets are $10 and will be on sale during lunches the week prior.
