Girls Varsity Swimming matched up at Eastridge last night against a very equally ranked Lancers squad. Bouncing back from a visit to State #1 Pittsford at their Homecoming Meet on Tuesday, this was a close matchup from beginning to end. Every point and race mattered in this meet.
Double wins were earned by Aubree Yantachka in the 200 Free in a Personal Best 2:18 and the 100 Freestyle, as well as Makena Brady in 50 freestyle and 100 Breaststrokes. Touch out races were competed by Cassidy Stasko in both the 200 Free and 500 Freestyles where she dropped 6 and 61 seconds respectively for new personal records racing Eastridges' top entry.
Freshman Amelia Scott bit the bullet for the team racing in the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly to second places behind Eastridges best swimmer, and freshman Brooke Harper pushed through a brutal back-to-back-to-back lineup of the 500 Freestyle, 200 Free Relay and 100 Backstroke to score important place points in her events. Wins in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays by the teams of Aubree, Makena, Cassidy and Brooke and Mika Afrima substituting for Brooke in the 400 Relay weren't enough to overcome some early disqualifications as the Lancers prevailed 78-70 in the first truly competitive meet for RH in over 5 years. Team members Evelynne Craft, Redeat Shumaker, Emma Pulvino, Keira Wright, Lukas Swingle contributions in placing in the B relays and important depth events gave our Comets an opportunity but was stymied by mistake free swims for Eastridge.
On Saturday morning, 10 am, RH looks to redeem to a win against Dansville in what promises to be another nail biter of a contest. Pool opens at 9:30 for spectators to cheer the girls on!

Today is an important day in U.S. history. Twenty-three years ago, September 11, 2001, our country and world were changed forever. For those who were old enough to watch those events unfold - people like me, our teachers and staff members, and your parents - that day and the aftermath of the attacks had a lasting impact on our lives. What happened on 9/11, while heartbreaking, brought out the absolute best in all Americans in the days, weeks, and months that followed. That unity is still worth striving for today. I know our students are too young to remember, but 9/11 remains a significant historical event worthy of studying and remembering. Let's take a moment of silence to remember the heroes and honor the victims of that day. Please join me in observing that moment of silence now... Thank you.
