    Hello Roth Junior High Families,

There was plenty to celebrate in our first week together. We also have some areas to grow. I look forward to growing with and within our school community. Here are some upcoming events and procedural reminders that I would like to share as we start Week 2.

    • Arrival and Dismissal: We staff AM supervision starting at 6:45 a.m. each morning. This is when buses begin arriving. If you drop off your student, please do so as close to this time as possible. Upon arrival, students should select one location to wait for the first morning bell: the auditorium or the cafeteria. Please support our AM supervision and safety plan by reinforcing our single-location policy with your student. Upon dismissal, most buses are present and identified on our main entrance dry-erase board. Students should refer to this white board. If a bus is not present, students will be directed to wait in our cafeteria. When their bus arrives, it will be announced by a staff member in the cafeteria. Please remind your student to listen attentively for bus arrivals.
    • Coffee Chats with the Principal: I would like to invite families (adults only) to campus for coffee and a check-in on one weekend morning per month. Please complete THIS FORM to indicate your interest and availability in such an event. Again, increasing family engagement for the Roth community is a priority for the 2024-25 school year.
    • Cell Phone and Device Policy: We will continue to support students as they follow our building expectations around cell phones and personal devices: Though the slogan for our policy is similar to years past – “Unplug to Connect” and “Off and Away During the Day” – I want to highlight an important expectation. Students should store their cell phones and personal devices in their lockers. At Roth JHS, this applies to all scheduled classes, lunch and study halls. To “unplug to connect,” we must first unplug. Students have done a nice job responding to the messaging and expectation. Staff will continue to model and remind, and building leaders will step in as needed. However, it is my belief that our greatest allies in this effort are our students’ families. Thank you in advance for your support.
    • Roth Parent Group Meeting: Our first parent group meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 16 in the large conference room. I will provide a Google Meet link for those who prefer to connect remotely. I am committed to working with our Parent Group and willing community members to enhance our students’ experience at Roth Junior High. I look forward to meeting you there.
    • Open House: Please join us from 5 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18 as we open our campus to families for an opportunity to meet and greet our wonderful faculty and staff. You will be able to briefly meet and greet your child’s teachers and support staff, and to participate in any one of several Family Engagement sessions in our auditorium that evening. *At 7 p.m., our eighth-grade families will be invited to attend a Washington, D.C. trip informational meeting in the auditorium.
    • Free Little Library: Please read the following message from one of our incredible student teachers, Ms. Callear, regarding our revamped Free Little Library. If you or someone you know has Young Adult books that you are willing to donate, please consider stopping by our Open House: Do you have any books you would like to get rid of? We are currently taking in well-loved books for our Free Little Library that resides outside the school entrance in order to refurbish and give it new life! Any donations will be accepted in a dropbox at the Roth Open House on September 18. Thank you in advance and hope to see you there!
    • Other Upcoming Dates:
      • September 19 and 20: School Pictures (extra order phones are available in the Main Office)
      • October 7-11: Homecoming Spirit Week

Please feel free to contact me via phone or email if you have any questions or ideas.

    Sincerely,

     Omar Hussain
