Friday, April 11, 2025Hello Roth Families and Friends,
What a week! I know we’re starting Spring Break, but what about this winter weather forecast? This week provided so many opportunities for me to practice gratitude. I am grateful for the flexibility and patience with which our students and staff responded to state testing challenges. I am grateful for the planning and preparation that our team put into building a testing plan that could accommodate change. I am grateful for the support of our Roth families, who sent their kids to school this week with the expectation of hard work and success. I am grateful to be principal of Roth Junior High.
And, I am grateful for Spring Break. Whether you stay put or travel, I hope that you are safe, surrounded by people who lift you up, and that you enjoy the bonus time with our kids. We’ll hit the ground running when we return. Our next round of state testing for 7th and 8th graders is the math exam Tuesday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 7. Any 8th graders who are not eligible to sit for June’s Regents exams – based on lab eligibility – will also sit for the ILS Science exam on Wednesday, May 14.
We’ll also begin the exciting work of planning our end-of-year celebrations, including our spring concerts, Freshmen Semi-Formal, and June Field Days. So, let’s have a tidy and productive pit stop before rejoining the track for the final laps of the 2024-2025 school year. Time for some news and reminders.
Congratulations to our Women’s History Video Essay Award Recipients: I am so honored to announce that two of our students will be recognized for their video essay responses to the following prompt: “Who is a woman that inspires me and why?” Congratulations to Umihana Beslagic (Gr. 9) and MacKenzie Mothersell (Gr. 7). You are fantastic for what you do, and you are our future. Well done.
Roth Parent Group, Teacher Appreciation: Please read below for a message from our Parent Group President, Sarah Johnson.
Hello Roth families! We need your help. The Roth Parent Group puts on a Staff Appreciation Brunch each May to thank all of the staff, teachers, and bus drivers who work with our kids throughout the year. This year’s celebration is on May 8. There are many ways to contribute to this celebration including making or bringing in food items, donating funds toward food expenses, setup/clean up, and working the event the day of.
If you have a restaurant in the area and would like to donate food or offer reduced rates, we will be happy to work with you in advertising your business the day of the event and on the Roth Facebook page.
We are accepting monetary donations through Venmo: @SarahJohnson44. The sign-up for food donations can be found here and on the Roth Facebook page. You are welcome to communicate questions or messages through the Facebook page as well. Thank you all so much! Roth Jr. High Staff Appreciation Brunch
A Sparkling Starry Night, Semi-Formal
Roth freshmen are invited to attend our Semi-Formal Friday, May 30. The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. This year’s theme is “A Sparkling Starry Night.” Tickets are $10 per person. Snacks and beverages will be provided. Tickets will be on sale Monday, May 19, through Friday, May 30, during lunch. Be sure to buy your ticket in advance as no tickets will be sold the night of the event. This event is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a night of dancing and fun with your friends before making the leap to the Senior High School. No tuxedos or ballroom gowns required. Put on your best business-casual attire. The goal is to have a blast without breaking the bank – save the formal wear for your Junior Prom and Senior Ball.Reminders:
Incoming 7th-Grade Orientation: Sixth graders from Sherman and their parents/guardians are invited to an Incoming 7th Grade Orientation meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, in the Roth Junior High auditorium. This orientation will give parents/guardians an opportunity to learn about the transition to 7th grade, and will include many of the common questions and differences that students may experience in September. Please click here to learn more about this event.
Moving-Up Informational Meeting: This event is new this year. Families of current Roth 8th and 9th graders are invited to participate in an informational meeting to learn more about the transition to high school. This event will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in the Roth auditorium. At Roth JHS, our 8th graders transition from junior high to high school in-house. Our current 9th graders get more of an authentic experience because of the building move to the Senior High School. Coming from a high school background myself, I hope to start a tradition during which we help students and families understand the importance of these first two high school years. More information will be provided as this event gets closer.
Roth Parent Group, Budget Presentation: Please join us at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, for a school district budget presentation. The online meeting will give Board Member (and Roth Liaison) Mrs. Rachel Sherman an opportunity to present the 2025-2026 R-H budget to our families. I will share a link for the Google Meet as we get closer to the event. Thank you for supporting our district and our students.
