Welcome to English Language Arts!
Our goal in Rush-Henrietta is to expose students at all grade levels to regular and varied opportunities to read, write, listen, and speak across all content areas. The New York state standards for English Language Arts & Literacy are the culmination of an extended, broad-based effort to fulfill the parameters issued by the states to create the next generation of K-12 standards in order to help ensure that all students are college and career ready in literacy no later than the end of high school.
These standards are:
(1) research- and evidence-based
(2) aligned with college and work expectations
(3) rigorous
(4) internationally benchmarkedRush-Henrietta Balanced Literacy Framework
In a balanced approach to literacy instruction, teachers integrate instruction with authentic reading and writing and experiences so that students learn how to use literacy strategies and skills and have opportunities to apply what they are learning. The director of English Language Arts, Jeanette Cannioto, welcomes you to contact her by e-mail at jcannioto@rhnet.org.
