    Dear Winslow Families:

I am writing to you to let you know this will be my last school year as the principal of Winslow Elementary School. This has been a difficult decision, but I am looking forward to new opportunities to grow as a leader and an educator. I have enjoyed my time at Winslow working with the terrific students, staff, and families.

I am announcing this now so that there is sufficient time to find a new principal to serve here next school year. Winslow is a very special place, and I know that it will be in great hands. In the coming weeks, the district will communicate information regarding the search for a new principal. This will include opportunities for parents to participate in the interview process.

It has been my privilege to have served as principal during a time of great transition. During my time here, Winslow was transformed from a K-5 building to a school focusing on the specific needs of K-3 children. As part of our new configuration, we offered full-day kindergarten for the first time. As a result of these significant changes, and with the encouragement and support you provided along the way, students have become stronger readers and have a better understanding of math. This will serve them well in the future.

As I shared with my staff on Friday, I am especially proud of the academic growth our students have shown during the past few years. We have accomplished that, in part, by promoting a growth mindset, knowing that we learn best when we capitalize on our strengths while addressing areas we know we need to improve. At the same time, we have gone to great lengths to support your child in other important ways. For example, my staff and I have helped students to develop their qualities as people, not just as classroom learners. I have always viewed your child as a young person with great potential.

I do not plan to share this news formally with students until late in the spring, however, you are welcome to discuss the news with your child at any time. Thank you for providing me with the opportunity to be part of the Winslow community. I will remember my time here fondly.

    Sincerely,
