American Schools

  • American Customs

We want your child to be successful in school here. In American schools, children are encouraged to participate in classroom discussions and to ask teachers questions if they do not understand. It is polite for children to look at teachers and other adults when they are speaking. They should raise their hand if they want to ask or answer a question in the class. Teachers want to hear from students or parents about any problems. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

    Report Cards

There are about 40 weeks in the school year. Students will receive grades on a report card every 5 weeks. There are four quarter grades (every 10 weeks) These grades are recorded on a school transcript and will be sent to any college that your child applies. Students will receive an interim report card (every 5 weeks) to let you know their progress. These grades do not go on the school transcript. A report card is given to students in school and sent home.   On the report card is the name of the teacher.   Parents can e-mail teachers directly with questions or concerns.

    Parent Involvement

American schools want parents or guardians to be interested and involved in their child's education. We encourage you to talk to your child about classes, school activities and special events. Read the parent newsletter each month and try to come to any activities that you can. You can call teachers or e-mail them with questions or concerns about your child.
