Rush-Henrietta Singers
The RH Singers are under the direction of their 3rd Vocal Music Director since their formation in 1972 as the “Sperry Singers.” Mr. John Polvino is in his third year with the group succeeding his predecessors Mrs. Christine Sargent (1997-2018), and Mr. Paul Cimicata, (1972-1997). The RH Singers have had numerous Domestic and International singing engagements. In 2019, the RH Singers continued with their international travel tradition touring London, Oxford, and Bath, England. The RH Singers have performed locally with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Rochester Oratorio Society. They have performed nationally at Constitution Hall in Washington, DC with the National Philharmonic Orchestra, Carnegie Hall in New York City, Old North Church in Boston, Massachusetts, and at Walt Disney World. The Singers have also had the honor of performing internationally in Poland, Italy, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, France, Russia, Germany, and Canada. The RH Singers are evaluated each year by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) at the highest level of adjudication in New York State . They are consistently rated “Gold, with Distinction,” the highest attainable rating.
Treble Chorus
Treble Chorus is made up of students in 10th, 11th and 12th grade. Voice parts are soprano I, soprano II and alto. This is a non-auditioned group of singers who enjoy a wide variety of choral literature and work on music literacy and vocal technique within each choral rehearsal. During the month of March each year, these students perform for one of our senior citizen groups in the Rush-Henrietta community. They also perform in Winter and Spring Concerts.
Mixed Chorus
Directed by Mr. Polvino, Mixed Chorus is made up of students in 10th, 11th and 12th grade. Voice parts are soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. This is a non-auditioned group of singers who enjoy a wide variety of choral literature and develop music literacy and vocal technique through rehearsals and performance.
Spectrum Singers
This group of auditioned RH Singers rehearse on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school and perform at many community events as well as in school concerts. Their repertoire is chosen yearly with the input of the students in the group.
Barbershop
The Rush-Henrietta Barbershop Club is designed for Tenors and Basses to participate in traditional Barbershop-style quartet singing. This student-led performing group selects and prepares large group and small quartet repertoire in anticipation of scholastic and community performances. It was formed during the 2017-2018 school year. Members take an active role in repertoire selection, instruction, leading rehearsals, fund-raising, and community outreach. In 2019, the Barbershop Club was featured performing group in the Chorus of the Genesee’s Annual Concert.
MLK Singers
MLK Singers Club is designed for students to participate in traditional gospel-style choir singing. This student-led performing group will select and prepare repertoire in anticipation of scholastic and community performances. Annual performing engagments include the community's annual MLK Celebration.
Bel Canto Singers
Bel Canto is a club under the direction of Carol Lamica. It is a select ensemble of treble voices in grades 10-12 who are not in RH Singers. Voice parts include Soprano I, Soprano II, Alto I and Alto II. This group meets on Thursday evenings and prepares a wide variety of choral literature. In addition to the scheduled school concerts, Bel Canto participates in an annual season of sharing concert at Asbury First United Methodist Church. Bel Canto also performs at community hosted events in Henrietta. If interested in auditioning for the 2020-2021 school year, please email Mrs. Lamica at clamica@rhnet.org.
