Sophomore Year

  • College Action Plan: Sophomores

    • Make sure you're enrolled in challenging classes that will help you prepare for college. Colleges prefer four years of English, social studies, math, science, and a foreign language.
    • Remember that all four years of high school are recorded on your transcript, so give every course your best effort.
    • Use your agenda for important dates and deadlines.
    • Get involved with extracurricular activities.
    • Go to college fairs in your area.
    • If you are taking accelerated courses, listen for the announcement to sign up for the PSAT given in October. There will be another opportunity to take this practice SAT exam next October.
    • Visit the College and Career Center to explore your career interests, research job-shadowing opportunities and learn about colleges.
    • Visit local colleges while they're in session.
    • Find out about college firsthand from college friends who are home for the holidays.
    • Explore summer opportunities to add to your activity resume:  a part time job, and internship or volunteer position.
