    Hello Roth Families and Friends,

This is a milestone week for all of Roth’s students. For our 7th graders, it’s the last full week in the building with all of our 8th and 9th graders. For their families, it’s the final full week – because we move to a half-day schedule after Monday, June 16 – of this group being the youngest in the building. For our 8th graders, it’s the final week of junior high - 9th grade is high school. All courses have credits attached. Successfully passing all classes next year will be an important goal toward on-time high school graduation. For their families, it’s the beginning of the four-year march toward graduation. And, for our 9th graders, it’s their last full week as current students of Roth Junior High. Wow. Though I’ve only worked with our freshmen for one year, I will miss seeing them in Roth’s halls, classrooms, and other common areas. And, for their families, it’s time for another transition.

Change is in the air. How we respond to change is an important part of how we grow as a community of educators, students, families, and citizens. As we prepare for the closing weeks of the 2024-2025 school year, I ask that we continue to remind our students that kindness, self-awareness, respect for self and others, hard work, and the willingness to grow are key ingredients to success. At last week’s faculty meeting, I quoted a definition of success that I recently heard on a podcast. “Success is learning.” Well, I am committed to lifelong learning. I am grateful for my first year at Roth. There have been many learning opportunities along the way. My goal for these last few weeks is to celebrate the positives, reflect on the growth opportunities, and meet change as an old friend when it inevitably walks through our doors.

To the exiting Class of 2028, I wish you the very best of luck as you transition to 10th grade, and the last few years of your high school experience.

Alrighty, Friday’s E-News was the first in a series dedicated to Celebrating Roth’s Students. Here are some more accomplishments and achievements to celebrate.

    Celebrating Roth’s Students

R-H Kicking Hunger 5K Race/Walk: It was a beautiful Saturday morning for this year’s R-H Kicking Hunger race. And, Roth Junior High showed out! It was awesome to see so many familiar faces before, during, and after the race. We had several Roth students place in their divisions. Students who placed were: Franklin Fritzinger, Noah Long, Milana Gartland, Sydney Ganskop, and Chloe’ Galante. We had many other students run as well, and it was an overall excellent start to a beautiful day for Roth Junior High.

Darien Lake Music Festival: Congratulations to Roth’s very own Chamber Orchestra and Dedicated Voices for their fantastic performances over the weekend! Congratulations to Mrs. Herman, Mr. Kazacos, and Mr. Ronan for the commitment to excellence that they all so clearly instilled in our students. Both groups won their divisions, and both also won for their respective sites.

Student Council Student/Staff Kickball Game: The green team won, decidedly so. What a fantastic showing for the first of several Roth Junior High events. We had nearly 40 students show up to play in the light rain. There was a ton of laughter and joy at the game, and I am thankful to our entire Student Council for organizing this great event. It was an excellent opportunity for students and staff to compete and enjoy some bonus time together.

Awards Ceremony Recap: I really enjoyed seeing so many of our students honored and celebrated by their peers and families last week. I also have to admit that there was a huge group of students that absolutely deserved to be recognized at the Awards Ceremony, but were not. This group of students are Roth’s Mega-CHAMPS. These students have earned monthly CHAMPS awards for three or more months. Their names have been added to the list of our awards recipients. Congratulations to all of Roth’s rising stars!

    Upcoming and Reminders:

Parent Group: Our final Parent Group meeting of the school year will be at 7 p.m. tonight, Monday, June 9. I’m hoping we can come together to celebrate the year that has been, and to share goals and expectations for the new school year that’s just a few months away. If you are not able to attend in person, please use this link to join virtually.

Roth Freshman Lock-In: Tickets are still on sale for Friday night’s Freshman Lock-In/Sunset event. Roth 9th graders are eligible for this evening event – an opportunity to literally (and figuratively) see the sun set on your Roth career! Tickets are $10 and will be on sale during lunches this week.

End-of-Year Schedule: This week will be our final full-building week of the school year. On Monday, June 16, we will be celebrating our last day of the year with a fun-packed Spring Fest! After that, we will transition to a half-day schedule for our 7th graders, and a test-only schedule for our 8th and 9th graders. This means that students (and families) should pay special attention to the specific time they need to attend, and the bus pick-up/drop-off schedule below. To all students taking local final exams and Regents: show what you know! *Please note: this will be an excellent opportunity for families to use our new StopFinder App to track bus routes and locations. Primary contacts should have already received information to sign up; but, please call our Transportation Center at (585) 359-5380 if you have questions. **Also, please note that our 7th graders will not begin their school day until 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 23.
