Sophomore year

  • Sophomore Year - What to Expect

Sophomore Year is a new and exciting experience for students. It is their first year in the Senior High Building and their first time with classes and lunch with upperclassmen! They will be attempting to move through the hallways with 1500+ students. The building is much larger than the NGA and things can get overwhelming at times.

Many other things will be changing for students, both academically and social/emotionally. The rigor of courses will continue to increase and students will have to learn to start advocating for themselves. They will be required to meet higher expectations and to establish positive relationships with the adults in the building. Students will also have more freedom and will have to begin to make positive choices for themselves behaviorally, academically, socially and in regards to their future.

The Counselor that your student is assigned to will remain with them throughout high school. Moving through the grade levels with the students gives Counselor's the opportunity to build a strong relationship with your student and to help them move toward making their post-secondary plans a reality. It also gives us the opportunity to watch them grow and mature, which can be very rewarding at times!

Below is an outline of what Sophomores should be doing throughout the year. As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to call!
