Homework Tips for Parents
-
1. Be active in your child's schooling. Be a motivator. The attitude you express about homework will be the attitude your child acquires.
2. Help your child get organized. Check their Agenda daily. Check the Teacher Webpages if your child doesn't know what the homework is or if the agenda is incomplete.
3. Set up a quiet, comfortable study area with good lighting, a snack, and all necessary equipment. Don't let cell phones, IM's, and text messages get in the way.
4. Make homework time a daily routine. Pick a set time and stick to it. This will help your child develop good homework habits.
5. Be a monitor. Watch for signs of frustration. If your child asks for help, provide guidance, not answers. If frustration persists, suggest a short break.
6. Set up a system that works best for your child. Many students are successful when they have a single homework folder that is brought to every class.
