The children choose a 'good fit' books to read during the Read to Self part of Daily 5. We use the the phrase I pick to help guide the children.
I choose a bookP urpose-Why do Iwant to read it?
I nterest-Does it interest me?
C omprehend-Am I understanding what I am reading?
K now- I know most of the words
The five finger rule is used to determine if the child knows most of the words.
1. Open to any page in the book.
2. Read the page putting up a finger for each unknown word.
3. 5 or more fingers the book is to difficult.
