    Dear Winslow Family,

You may be familiar with our district-wide initiative called PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). At all schools across the district and across all school settings, students are explicitly taught what it means to demonstrate our five traits of being respectful, being responsible, being caring, being trustworthy, and being ready to learn. Here at Winslow, we encourage students to support each other and act responsibly to “Show the Winslow Way” each and every day!

These simple steps and suggestions can help all children succeed in school:

    Spending Time Together

    • Set aside time for talking - without being interrupted by phones, TV, radio, and computers.

    • As a family, play games together that encourage concentration (jigsaw puzzles and board games).

    Working Out a Family Routine

    • Children like routines, so try to have regular times for going to bed and getting up, mealtimes, and family times.

    • Make sure they have a healthful breakfast at home or at school.

    Being Prepared

    • Review your child’s “Take Home” folder daily.

    • The night before school, make sure to have the backpack ready with everything needed for school and set out the clothes. This helps the morning routine go more smoothly without rushing and forgetting things at the last minute.

    Getting Enough Sleep

    • Children need sleep to develop, concentrate in school and to learn well

    • For primary-age children, 10 hours of sleep each night is recommended. Older children still need as many as nine hours of sleep.

    • Too many late bedtimes can make it hard for children to learn.

At Winslow, we are looking forward to sharing more about how our students are showing “The Winslow Way."

Thank you for your support of our behavioral expectations, both at school and at home. As always, should you have any questions or if I can be of assistance, please contact me at 359-5090 or  You are an important part of our school community, and I thank you in advance for your support and assistance!
