Graduation: Friday is On, Saturday Has Been RescheduledDear Class of 2020 and Families,Rush-Henrietta Senior Days are flying by, and it is time for graduation. We can’t wait to host the first six of our 12 mini-ceremonies starting at 9 a.m. Friday! We spent most of the day on the field at Elmer Gordon Stadium making final preparations and recording a number of speeches that will appear in the graduation video we are producing. The field looks fantastic!
We have been keeping a close eye on the weather, even consulting with a local meteorologist to gain insight on what to expect this weekend. Although weather is fickle and often unpredictable, we’ve been told Saturday holds the potential for a spell of bad weather and that Sunday looks much more promising. For that reason, we are moving all of Saturday’s mini-ceremonies to Sunday. Seniors who were going to graduate on Saturday will keep their time slot for Sunday. Everything remains the same, except your ceremony is delayed by 24 hours.
To recap: Seniors scheduled to graduate on Friday will do so at their original time. We will see you tomorrow! Seniors expecting to graduate on Saturday instead will do so Sunday. We know this change will be inconvenient for some families, but we are doing this to ensure all students get to take part in a ceremony. We can’t simply move the event to the gymnasium, because we would have to limit the number of attendees even further. Even if we receive lots of rain on Saturday, our field has a good drainage system and will be in good condition for Sunday.
Speaking of limiting the number of guests, we respectfully remind you of the three-guest limit and ask that you adhere to it. Earlier this month, a school district in Central New York had its graduation ceremony - one far simpler than ours - stopped after two-thirds of the students had received their diplomas because too many people were in attendance. This district received a call from the governor’s office that put an end to the proceedings. The state-mandated attendance cap is real and we need your help to make sure we do not exceed it. We must do everything we can to make sure every member of the Rush-Henrietta Class of 2020 has an opportunity to cross the stage this weekend.
Please keep in mind you will be sitting on an open field in the middle of summer. Consider the need to wear sunscreen, have sunglasses handy, and to bring a bottle of water. It may be wise to wear flats on the field, especially given the walking required to get to your seat. Although you and your guests can arrive in separate cars, we ask that you approach the stadium gate together to make the check-in process easier.
If you missed the video outlining what to expect at graduation, you can view it here. Remember, it was filmed before Saturday’s festivities were moved to Sunday. If you haven’t seen the Senior Awards Night video, it is available here. Today, we started posting our Class of 2020 Flashback series, and you can see those posts here, here, and here. It is amazing to see how far our seniors have come during their time in Rush-Henrietta!
We would also like to congratulate the winner of the Senior Scavenger Hunt, Elizabeth Paul! Thank you to everyone who participated - it looks like you had fun! Elizabeth, we will contact you to get the gift basket to you. Congratulations!
It starts to get real tomorrow!
