At its regularly scheduled meeting March 22, 2022, the Rush-Henrietta Board of Education appointed Dr. Casey van Harssel as the district’s next Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and School Accountability. He succeeds Dr. Pat McCue, who is retiring at the end of the school year.
Since 2014, Casey has served as the principal of East Rochester Jr./Sr. High School. There, he has discovered that relationships anchored in trust are the cornerstone to creating a positive school culture and learning environment. As principal, Casey also helped create and lead a successful diversity, equity and inclusion committee.
Casey began his career as a science teacher in Leesburg, Va. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Niagara University, and completed his Doctor of Education in Executive Leadership at St. John Fisher College in 2019. He is eager to join the Rush-Henrietta team.
“It is an honor to lead a Human Resources office fully committed to supporting current staff and striving to hire the next generation of highest quality faculty and staff for our students,” Casey says. “I am looking forward to starting the process of forming relationships with the students and staff that make Rush-Henrietta the special place it is.”
