BOE Names Assistant Superintendent for Student and Family Services

June 26, 2024

Dear Rush-Henrietta Families and Employees,

As I shared last month, Nerlande Anselme, our longtime assistant superintendent for Student and Family Services, is departing this week to become superintendent of the Rome City School District. We wish her all the best and know she will provide strong leadership to her new district.

I am pleased to let you know the Board of Education last night appointed Mr. Michael A. Allen, II as Ms. Anselme’s successor. He brings extensive experience as a school administrator and enjoys supporting students and families, especially those who often are furthest from opportunity. We believe his experience, passion, warmth, and ability to listen will serve our community well.

Mr. Allen has spent over 20 years in the Rochester City School District, serving students and families in several different roles. Since 2017, he has been the director of the city school’s Youth and Justice Programs. He oversees educational initiatives for students in mental health, juvenile justice, and alternative settings. This work has led to enhanced learning outcomes and holistic support for many in his district. In addition, he is adept at fostering collaboration with community agencies. He also helped establish and oversee a new Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program, evidence of his desire to help our students grow into successful citizens.

Mr. Allen brings experience as a school administrator, as well. He worked for four years as the  principal of Charlotte High School and for five years as assistant principal at East High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from The College of Brockport, as well as a master’s degree in education from St. John Fisher University. Mr. Allen is pursuing a doctorate in executive leadership that he expects to complete in August 2024.

We expect Mr. Allen to join Rush-Henrietta on August 5, 2024, and look forward to working with him on behalf of our students and families.

Sincerely,

Dr. Barbara Mullen
Superintendent
