In Rush-Henrietta, the spirit of continuous improvement propels us to seek feedback from peers and experts and then use that feedback to better our craft. Each year, R-H performing ensembles engage in evaluation and reflection and our students learn that feedback fuels improvement! This spring, ensembles have participated in a variety of evaluation experiences, from clinicians and workshops to adjudication in the annual NYSSMA Major Organization Festival.
The groups that performed during this recent festival (and their teachers) were:
Sherman 6th Grade Orchestra - Level I (Lindsey Rybicki)
Roth JHS Concert Choir - Level IV (Pam Quinlan)
Roth JHS Concert Orchestra - Level V (Nicole Walton)
RH Singers - Level VI (John Polvino)
SHS Symphonic Band - Level VI (Scott Cannan)
SHS Symphonic Orchestra - Level VI (David Kluge)
SHS Jazz Ensemble - Level VI (Sean Joseph)
Having the younger grades perform grade-level appropriate repertoire and receive feedback on their performance helps determine how on-track they are to perform at the highest levels in high school. In fact, our high school groups all performed Level VI music, which is the highest level for high school. And perform, they did!
All of our high school groups were awarded either Gold or Gold with Distinction designations, which is the highest award a group can receive!
Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble - Gold
RH Singers and Symphonic Orchestra - Gold with Distinction
We are extremely proud of all of our groups for their performances, and know that this dedication to excellence in music by our teachers and students is a big part of why R-H has been consistently named a Best Community for Music Education!
