Rush-Henrietta Mourns Loss of Fyle Kindergarten Student

February 21, 2019

Dear Fyle Families,

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I write to inform you of the death of one of our kindergarten students. Fyle Elementary School's Trauma, Illness, and Grief team recently met to discuss how best to support our families during this difficult time.

These situations are never easy, and can have a profound impact on a school community. I want to let you know that we have made phone calls to the parents who have students in the child’s classroom. By doing this, we have given them the opportunity to speak with their children before they return to school on Monday, Feb. 25.

When students return to school next week, we will have mental health professionals on hand to assist our students, staff members, and others who may feel the need to speak with someone about this loss. It is natural and normal to grieve, but sometimes we are unsure how.

We are sharing a link to resources to help families with communicating about grief and loss with their children. Maintaining a routine and structure are important to supporting students throughout this kind of event. If you believe your child needs additional support, please contact one of the social workers who will be on site at 359-5447. We are here to help.

We are deeply saddened by this tremendous loss to our school community. We stand ready to make every effort to help your child in whatever way is needed. Please join us in support and sympathy for this family, as well as all who are impacted by their loss.

Sincerely,

Marcy Mooney
Principal
