Attendance Updates

A Note for the 2026-2027 School Year

Dear R-H Parents and Caregivers,

We are excited to partner with you to help your child have a successful school year. One important way we can support this success is by encouraging regular, on-time, daily attendance.

September is Attendance Awareness Month, a reminder that being in school every day matters. Daily attendance helps students build relationships, stay connected to their learning, and make steady academic progress.

When a student misses school, it can affect their learning, academic progress, and connection to the school community. As absences add up, the impact can become greater as students miss important instruction and opportunities to learn alongside their classmates.

A student is considered chronically absent when they miss at least 10 percent of the school year. This equals about 18 days in a typical school year. Please remember that both excused and unexcused absences count toward a student’s total number of days missed.

We understand that absences may sometimes be necessary. Last year, our district’s chronic absenteeism rate was 19.7 percent, meaning about 1 in every 5 students missed at least one-tenth of the school year. This year, our district goal is to reduce chronic absenteeism by at least three percentage points, to no more than 16.7 percent. We need your help and look forward to partnering with you to support regular attendance.

Families of students with increasing absences will receive regular communication from the school, including attendance letters after five, 10, and 15 absences. Please visit our website to review the district Attendance Policy and the accompanying Attendance Summary document for additional information on attendance expectations and supports.

At the beginning of each month, I will share an update on our progress from the previous month.

Thank you for working with us to ensure every student is present, supported, and ready to learn each day.

We got this!
