Modified Team Sports

In Rush-Henrietta, Modified B sports are offered to students in grades 7–8, while Modified A (or simply “Modified”) includes grades 7–9. The following are Modified B Sports

  • Fall: Sports where team placement is based on skill include girls volleyball and boys and girls soccer. Mod B football is one team with playing time being divided on skill based on the quarters in a game.

  • Winter: Skill-based placement applies to boys and girls basketball.

  • Spring: Softball teams are divided evenly and baseball is 1 mod b team

Modified A teams, All 9th graders should register for JV sports. Final team placement will be based on tryout evaluations. Coaches recommendations, based off JV tryouts, for Modified A team. Modified A teams throughout the year (for grades 7–9) include:

  • Cross Country (fall)

  • Boys Volleyball (fall)

  • One boys basketball team (winter)

  • Girls (fall) and Boys (spring)Tennis

  • Wrestling

  • Cross Country (9th graders can do modified or Varsity)

  • Indoor (winter) and Outdoor (spring) Track

Game Day Cheer and Competitive Cheer may be classified as either Modified A or B depending on the number of athletes who register and the decisions of other schools in our league during that season.

Swim is unique at the modified level—it is co-ed and offered in the winter season. Approximately half of Monroe County schools follow this co-ed swim model.

Lacrosse is currently offered at the Modified B level for both boys and girls. Movement between Modified A and Modified B depends on league decisions and roster size. If numbers are too low to field a JV team, lacrosse may only be offered at Modified A (grades 7–9) and Varsity. Because participation tends to fluctuate every 3–4 years, this cycle occasionally requires adjustments. Ideally, Rush-Henrietta offers Modified B, JV, and Varsity teams for both boys and girls lacrosse.
