The Blog is Moving

I'm moving the blog to this website for the coming school year:

http://hendersonscience.edublogs.org/

I recommend setting up an RSS reader so that you can stay updated on what's happening in our classroom:

http://www.google.com/help/reader/tour.html

It's super easy. Send me an email if you need help with this:

CERN Stuff

Hey all. Be sure to check out the blog from the CERN opening. Mr. Paradis and his students are writing up quite a bit about their experiences.

We'll be talking about this stuff in Earth Science soon!

Mid-winter Update

Hey all! Just a quick update on some Science news. All Science classes will be taking Midterms during the last week of the 2nd Marking Period on either January 22nd and January 23rd. Our students have study guides for these midterms. Make sure they use them!

After the midterms, Earth Science classes will be starting a unit on Plate Tectonics: Earthquakes, Volcanoes, etc. Science 8 is finishing a unit on Genetics and will soon start a unit on Darwinian Evolution: Natural Selection.

Just a random update

Hey all, it's been a while since I've last blogged. Thought I'd throw some news out there. In Science 8 we've just started a unit on Genetics. This is really a great unit and we'll be learning about all sorts of interesting things. Expect more news on this front in a bit after we've explored this some more. In Earth Science we're finishing up a unit on Weathering, Water, and Soil with a debate on groundwater pollution and the Love Canal tragedy. Next we're moving on to Erosion and all the fun destruction involved with that! Feel free to email if you have any questions or need anything.

Current Units and Whatnot

Hey all, just wanted to give a quick update as to what we're doing in class.

In Earth Science we're almost done with a unit about Rocks and Minerals and what they are used for. We'll be debating how our society uses coal.

In Science 8 we're getting really close to the end of the very large unit on Forces and Motion. We're about to start learning about simple machines and Rube Goldberg's artwork. Be sure to check out the video and links over on the left.

In other news, Environmental Club is up and running. It's brand new and who knows where it will go. New members are always welcome! Check out the link on the left side of the page...

Current Units in Science

In Earth Science we're doing a unit titled "Earth Dimensions". Check out the links about mapping for some cool applications and enrichment. In Science 8 we've started a large unit titled "Forces and Motion" about how things move and physics. I should have updated links for both topics up soon.

PS - Wikipedia is amazing. Don't use it as a primary source, but for general knowledge, nothing is better.
