Principal’s Message
August 25, 2010
Dear Parents or Guardians:
Welcome to the Ninth Grade Academy family! Your child will begin classes Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Time will move quickly and, before you know it, they will be walking across the stage wearing a cap and gown. Our goal at the NGA is to make the first year of high school as successful as it can be for all of our students.
I am joining the NGA family for the first time this year after teaching for 17 years – more than half of that time in Rush-Henrietta – and being the sophomore assistant principal at Rush-Henrietta Senior High School for the past two years. I am very excited for the opportunity to lead such an outstanding group of professionals at the NGA.
The first six weeks of school are very important for every student. This is the time when habits are set that can lead to successful learning throughout the year. Supporting your child with each of the following will help him or her to start the year off strong.
1- Create a system for keeping track of assessments and assignments. Daily use of the school-supplied agenda can be a great tool for this.
2- Create a routine at home for studying for assessments and completing schoolwork. Having a consistent time and location makes studying and learning part of a routine and less of a chore.
3- Ask your child, “What did you learn today?” or say, “Teach me what you learned in science today.” It helps the learning to come alive.
4- Contact the classroom teacher (e-mail and phone lists are found on the district Web site at www.rhnet.org) whenever you have a question or information to share. You may contact your child’s counselor (Mrs. Castle (A-L) or Mrs. O'Connor (M-Z)), Mr. Pringle (assistant principal), or me for assistance, as well.
We are excited to meet your child on September 8!
Sincerely,
Tim Heaphy, Principal
