Guidelines, Tips and Tricks
All work is due no later than the third class meeting.
Be creative! Don’t procrastinate!
Project Options – Creativity is the key ! ! !
Choose and complete one of the following six projects:
1. Create a sculpture of a character. Use any combination of soap, wood, clay, sticks, wire, stones, old toy pieces, or any other object. Explain the significance of the sculpture (one page).
2. Write a diary that one of the novel’s main characters might have kept before, during, or after the book’s events. Remember that the character’s thoughts and feelings are very important in a diary. Or, write a letter to one of the characters AND his/her response back to you.
3. Create a PowerPoint presentation.
4. Make a film reenacting one or more of the scenes. Or, create a film trailer of the novel. If the book were turned into a movie, what would it look like?
5. Write a book review as it would be done for a newspaper. Be sure to read a few examples before you write your own.
6. Create a newspaper for your book. Summarize the plot in one article, do a feature story on a character. Include ads.
Be Prepared!
During the second week of school, students will select one of several prompts and use the summer reading selection as the basis for an essay. Teachers may assign the task for homework or as an in-class essay.
The regular work for your English class will begin on the first day of school. Do not procrastinate!
