Dear Fyle Community,
In our January newsletter we shared information about promoting health and wellness at school. With the arrival of March, we are also ready to kick off our March Madness fruit and vegetable competition!
Starting March 2nd, we will engage our students in a competition between soon to be famous fruits and vegetables. The competition involves students voting for their favorite fruits and vegetables. Like the competition between the best college teams, winning foods will move on to the next bracket until a champion in both categories is determined. Our winners will be determined by the last week in March. We will celebrate the winning fruit and the winning vegetable during our celebration on March 26th.
This program encourages children to choose fruits and vegetables as an alternative to sugary options at snack and meal time. All Fyle students in grades 1-5 will be given the opportunity to sample each participating fruit or vegetable each day. Students will vote for their favorite each day. Winners will be determined each day and charted on our lunchroom bracket chart for everyone to keep track of during the month.
Throughout the month, information will be shared with students about the value of incorporating more fruits and vegetables into their diet. We will encourage students to participate in these information sessions by submitting their own facts and ideas that they learn as well.
We are very excited about this opportunity for our students. We hope you are interested in being involved in the excitement and helping us! Volunteers are needed to prepare fruits and vegetables on the designated competition days. We also need volunteers to assist with the sampling during lunch. If you are able to assist with March Madness, please contact our main office at 359-5430.
Fondly,
Gina Diesenberg
Principal
